LH School Board Race

Incumbents Tom Landman and Beverly Beal appeared to be the top vote getters on the both the Democrat and Republican tickets for Laurel Highlands school board, according to unofficial results from the Fayette County Election Bureau.
Brandi Kalich and Randy R. Raymond will advance to the general election as the third and fourth place on the Dem ballot. Raymond and Marie George were the third and fourth place vote getters on the Republican ballot, meaning there will be a race for the school board in the fall.
Ten candidates, also including Thomas Pat Lavery, Georgia Miller, Daniel Hoff, Kathryn Chiplaskey and Eric Witt, filed for the Democrat nod for the board’s four open seats. All of those except for Witt cross­filed to seek the Republican nomination as well.
On the Democrat ticket, Landman received 1,623 votes; Beal 1,429; Kalich 844; Raymond 808. On the Republican ticket, Landman received 593 votes; Beal 464; Raymond 412; George 318.
Board member Ira Chrise opted not to seek re­election. Former board president Angelo “Angie” Giachetti died in February following a brief illness.
Unofficial results on the Democratic ticket also showed that George received 783 votes; Lavery 654; Miller 518; Hoff 502; Chiplanskey 423; Witt 366.
Unofficial results on the Republican ticket showed Kalich with 309 votes; Lavery 291; Hoff 207; Chiplanksey 204 and Miller 190.
